Janey Mae Bevill
Oil Painter
Uplifting Surrealism
Each piece begins with a flow of movement on the canvas; whether it be sky, sea or soil.
Color then builds - Form is found - The surreal becomes an uplifting reality
“Balance is a Continuation
not a Destination”
Based on the Central Oregon Coast, Janey Mae Bevill is an oil painter of 25+ years, visceral poet, soprano singer in community choir and "Aunty Birdy" to several wonderful round-faced kiddos.
Her artistic style has often been described as elegant, vibrant and dynamic. She loves playing with exaggerating natural forces like gravity, light rays, decay and deliquescence and she has an expert hand at blending to create both soft textures and crisp details.
“Is there life in it?” That is the question Janey Mae redirects to in guiding her concepts and oil painted explorations. It is an intangible idea, but it can be felt. Oftentimes movement, light orbs or light refractions bring that feeling of life to her pieces. And often an ocean inspired narrative is represented. Some recent pieces include harbor seals diving in abstracted pastel currents, anemone’s splitting by asexual division, bird’s carrying lights and lanterns over oceanic scenes.
