Quill was inspired by a bird skull found on Agate Beach in Newport, Oregon. Its stunning curves, hollowed and hallowed spaces drew in Janey Mae. She took a topographical approach to the fine-line detail throughout the bones curves and laid the piece out in perfect symmetry. The drawing features water/ink flowing through the bird skull, reminiscent of a pen quill tip.
FEATURED IN LOCAL THEATER: The original drawing of "Quill" along with a selection of other pen and ink works from Janey Mae's archives are featured on stage sets of Spirits of Sylvia, a production by Porthole Players at the Newport Performing Arts Center. The play ran September 13th-29th 2024.
